Conference title: Forests as hubs of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the anthropocene
Date and location: March 24-27, 2026; Coyhaique, Chile

Thanks to our more than 350 participants from all continents and over 36 countries, who made Chilean Patagonia, Coyhaique, and the Aysén Region the global epicenter of forest science during these days, with 5 pre-conference courses in three days, numerous symposia and keynote sessions, more than 300 academic abstracts, 5 simultaneous field trips, more than 20 exhibitors, over 5 meetings with the productive sector, decision-makers, companies and local producers, and the valuable support of 10 IFSA volunteers. A warm Patagonian embrace to all.

OBJECTIVE 1:
Foster scientific research in forestry, landscape ecology, and socioecology, emphasizing the challenges and prospects of the Anthropocene
Fostering interdisciplinary scientific research at the nexus of forestry, landscape ecology, and socio-ecology, with a focus on understanding and mitigating the complex challenges posed by the Anthropocene. This includes studying how human activities, climate change, biodiversity loss, and land-use changes impact forest ecosystems and landscapes, as well as developing adaptive management strategies that promote ecosystem resilience, sustainability, and equity. Researchers should aim to integrate ecological and social perspectives, addressing both local challenges and global implications, to generate insights that inform sustainable policy-making and conservation efforts.
Additional aspects to explore:
-
Challenges in the Anthropocene: How deforestation, urbanization, and industrial activities are driving unprecedented ecological changes.

-
Resilience and Adaptation Strategies: Developing models to improve forest resilience against climate impacts and socio-economic pressures.

-
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engaging with fields like environmental economics governance, and community-based resource management to create holistic solutions.
